St. Patrick’s Day Parades

by

stpattyday.gifI’m a lover of all things St. Patrick’s Day, which means I’ll definitely be looking for something fun to do in this beautiful city this weekend. Will you be looking for something to do on St. Patrick’s Day this year? Here are a few quick things I found from around the net that will be going on in our area.

On St. Patrick’s Day (the original day, March 17)
The 35th Annual Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade will actually be on Monday and it begins at 11 a.m. This will be on Grand and near Sprint Center so get there early as it may be hard to find a place to sit.

Saturday, March 15:
Need to find the Easter Bunny? He’ll be eating breakfast over at The Powell Gardens this Saturday. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. and it will cost $2.95 for ages 5 and under, $5.95 if they are 5 or older. If you show up at Powell Garden on Monday morning and are one of the first 50 you’ll get a free shamrock plant in celebration with St. Patty’s Day.

Don’t forget to celebrate on Snake Saturday, this is a festival. Is there really snakes present? Ikk. The festival begins around noon and ends at 4 p.m. There will be arts and crafts for kids, booths, children’s corner with free pony rides and petting zoo. For older kids there are the display race cars but for $3 you can do the slot car races for 3 minutes. Sound like fun? Disc Jockey, refreshments, food and a climbing wall will also be present. This all takes place in North Kansas City, near Armour Road, 18th Avenue and Howell. Have you ever been there? I’d love to hear more about this?

While Kansas City will be having their parade on Monday, you can still find other parades and activities to do to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in other areas.

Lee’s Summit Emerald Isle Parade is from 1 p.m. on Saturday. This is the third year Lees Summit has had a parade and it is suppose to be a blast. This will be located in Downtown Lees Summit, near Main and will have The Lucky Charms and Hannigan’s Right Hook at Howard Park. (www.downtownsls.org)

Sunday, March 16th:

Brookside St. Patrick’s Day Warm-Up Parade 2 p.m. on Saturday it’ll begin at 65th and Wornall. (www.brooksidekc.org)

Martin City’s “Irishpalooza” begins at 2p.m. Sunday. It’ll be a huge Irish Celebration with all types of booths, crafts for kids, beer, merchants, games, food and of course music. The parade will begin at 135th and Washington and end at Blue Ridge Boulevard. Ceremony begins at 4:30 p.m. and events end by 6p.m. There’ll even be an Irish Idol, kind of like American Idol but for the Irish, there’s even a children’s one these start at 3:30 p.m. Good luck!

Shawnee St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Duck Race at 1 p.m. on Sunday. This parade starts on Johnson Drive at Monrovia and ends at King Street. There will be a ceremondy after where everyone eats corned beef and cabbage. What’s St.Patty’s Day without that? The duck race will begin at 4:30p.m. watch and see which duck will win. The winning duck (and person) will get a free trip to Ireland or other sister cities. (www.shawneekscvb.com)
