Judge Orders Sex Offender to Post Signs
A Kansas Judge ordered a convicted sex offender this past week to post signs around all four sides of his house stating, “A Sex Offender Lives here” and had to place a bright yellow decal on his car that read, “Sex Offender in this Car.” This will continue for five years, when his probation period is up, after that he’s a free man.
For many of us this is a blessing, there will be no mistaking who lives in that house, so we won’t have to worry where the sex offender lives and where our kids are. However, for sex offender, Leroy Schad, it isn’t a bed of roses. Instead he says he feels lonely and isolated, when he drives around town with his yellow sticker telling everyone he’s a sex offender he gets threatening hand signals from other drivers. While I’m sure this is the case for him, did he ever think of what would happen if he commited the crimes? Obviously not, I hope this is a lesson for all those “possible” offenders out there, maybe they’ll think twice before coming near a child in such a manner.
When asked what he thought of his punishment he stated he didn’t think he deserved this.
“I know that was wrong,” Schad said. “I know that I deserve something for that, but I don’t think I deserve what I got.”
Do you think he deserved this? What do you think the man deserved? After all, he did plead guilty and it was two children. If not for this punishment he deserved prison, but that’s just my opinion.
Did he really think he’d get a pat on the wrist and be told, okay now go about your business we don’t care. No way, people want to feel safe and this is the best way for them to feel comfortable. I applaud the judge for taking this route.
