This past Friday there was a hit & run in St.Joseph Missouri and the police are still looking for the driver. The driver struck 54 year-old, Douglas Hancock and killed him. The accident, errr, hit and run took place around 7:30 p.m. around South Sixth Street and US Highway 36.
His sister is sickened at the thought that someone would just drive by run him down and leave. She’s asking for any information.

A Missouri Rancher disappeared in the middle of November, but that’s not going to stop his ranch from producing the top herd. They are still searching for David Cook but right now they’ve decided to sell the cattle. This ranch was known as top-producing herd for over 35 years, they now believe David was grabbed out of his home. The last thing the family knew was he was suppose to meet someone. His truck, wallet and everything else was left in the house…making it look like foul play. source
As many schools closed before school was even in session today, some decided not to have a snow day. But the one thing they did not figure into account would be how they’d get all these kids home. When the snow covered streets would become slicker and iced over by afternoon.
A bus driver knew she wouldn’t be able to safely drive the students home and left them all at school. However, not all parents were warned and one waited anxiously for her child to come home but after an hour she began to worry.
Carew said, "I called the school at that point. The school said they had my son, he’d been there the whole time. He was not allowed on the bus because the driver already knew she couldn’t make it."
How would you have felt? While it is a good thing that they didn’t want to risk the lives of these children, they never called all the parents.
As ya’ll know, it snowed a nice thick snow Tuesday throughout the day. Many schools were closed on Wednesday for their very first snow day, course this means children galore were outside on sleds, cardboard boxes and sledding down the hills. Some were making snow men while others were tossing snowballs.
While the temperatures only rose to a high of 32 it’ll be just about the same on Thursday, but the rest of the week should rise up to 45. Hopefully it’ll warm some of us up, but it won’t stay around for long. Keep warm.

Talk about a little boy with a big heart, this little guy decided to throw a birthday party for "Toys for Tots." This 8 year old boy, Owen, decided (his mom decided) that he should donate all his birthday presents to toys for tots. The family invited family, friends and the marines to show up with their party for Toys for Tots. Wal-mart even donated toys from their clearance aisle.

On Black Friday, aka November 27th, two people were hit by a car in front of a very packed Wal-mart. The shoppers that got hit were a man and a woman that appeared to be in their late 30s trying to catch some early bird deals. Neither one was hurt badly but they were both taken to the hospital.
The Lees Summit Bank robber that robbed, the First Community Bank this past Friday is still out on the loose. The man wore a green camouflage face mask, green hoodie and blue jeans. However he has yet to be identified and may get away scott-free.
If you’ve seen this masked man, please call 816 474 TIPS or submit a tip at kccrimestoppers.com
Snow fell in Lees Summit briefly on November 29th, which some didn’t believe it would stick around. However, waking up November 30th children all over Lees Summit were venturing outside to make tiny snowmen and attempt at sliding down the hills on sleds. Not all parts got snow and many said it was nothing more than a light dusting, for my family it was a big deal.
This year marks our first winter here and we thought it was beautiful, but like all things this too must end. On December 1st, the clouds broke and you could spy blue sky behind them, the snow will melt and the day will go on with a crisp chill in the air. There is a possibility that it will snow again come Wednesday. Guess we shall see. Did you get any snow?
(currently it is 29′ outside. Brrrr)

The Kansas City Mayor, Mark Funkhouser, will be appearing on "Good Morning America" this morning. Why? It’ll be over the controversy that surrounds him right now…his wife. That’s right the national media has heard about the town, aka Kansas City, wanting Funkhouser’s wife, Gloria Squitiro, to leave the office.
A law was passed that no volunteer could work in City Hall if they had members there. Yes, this was geared more towards one individual but the law was passed and everyone should abide by it. Now, Mark did try to veto the law but that didn’t work.
They are speaking up now, they’ve worked together for many years and she’s not ready to sit at home.
Funkhouser called his wife his "personal assistant."
"We worked hand-in-glove, intensely for months, while campaigning for the job. What was I supposed to do after I got elected? Just dump her? Say, ‘See ya, honey?’" Funkhouser said.
"He’s more than capable of doing this job. I’m more than capable of sitting in my tiny little corner being out of the limelight, which I very much like to be — out of the limelight. This is not affecting anybody but us, really," Squitiro said. "He’s a working mayor. That’s all he can think about. If I wasn’t with him, doing this, we would lose everything in our family."
What do you think? Should she bow out gracefully or fight this?

Imagine just moving to the area and finding yourself in a hotel that has bugs. Okay, well your first reaction is going to be to tell the manager right? WRONG, at least if you are staying at the Value Place Hotel. An entire family (with kids) got booted after they saw bed bugs in their sheets at a hotel. Apparently they went to tell the hotel staff about the "bug" issue and were soon booted from the hotel. I guess this is one way to say we don’t like clean sheets.
For those wondering the hotel is off Highway 71, be careful if you plan on staying there. Expect bugs but don’t complain.
This mom noticed bumps all over her 13-year-old daughter and went to ask for another room. She really thought they would too, until they evicted them. EEEkk, can you imagine now being with your kids and no place to stay? The hotel didn’t even give them a refund, which she’d paid 2 weeks in advance.
A spokesperson for the hotel responded to the media:
"Bedbugs are the single biggest issue the lodging industry faces today. These situations are brought into hotels by people."
He added, "The best way that a property can deal with that matter is to isolate and eradicate that source from the property to protect the entire property. We followed the appropriate protocol."
So these people think it is okay to have bugs I guess. Not me, I think the best hotels are those that like to keep their places clean. Even if it means spending a bit more money to bleach things.
Someone emailed asking about Kansas City’s per diem rates, so here they are:
Lodging runs around $70 and meals is just about $40 course this is a big change compared to what it was in 2006. Meals stayed the same but lodging has went up $10 more, even with all the hotels in the area.
Hope this answers the question, the email was very vague on what all you wanted to know.
