Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

The Pittsburg State University has announced that they received a $10 million donation towards it, however it was to stay anonymous and it would be going towards the fine arts center. Talk about someone that must’ve loved their art, I’m sure the University, students, faculty and future students thank you, whoever you are. They are currently in the process of rebuilding a new center to replace the old and torn down, “Carney Hall.” Let the plays begin once again.

Kansas City Tornado Drill

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

tornadoToday at 1:30 p.m. you might hear a bunch of noise, it’ll be the local tornado drill. No, we aren’t actually having a tornado but they are doing a drill so that everyone knows what it sounds like and can plan for one. They are said to be doing this in the Kansas and Missouri area, so both states should hear it.

So where do you go in case of a tornado?

If you live in something unsturdy like a trailer or a mobile home, get out and run to the closest shelter. Schools in the area will be teaching the children what do to today, however if you are home you may want to practice as well. Go to a sturdy room and if you can hide under a desk or table, placing your arms above your head to protect your neck. (head down, hands covering back of your neck)

Do not hide by a window!

Last year, Kansas broke their record for the most tornadoes at 137, Missouri didn’t have as many but it still got hit pretty hard. Be prepared and be safe this tornado season.

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

906661_money_series_1.jpgOver the weekend the kids and I found an article in the Kansas City Star, it was a contest and this is one that all kids can probably do. First, off has your child ever had money and it burned a hole in their pocket? I know mine has a few times over, heck, even I have. Am I right?

The only problem with today’s children is many of them don’t know how to http://www.parentingourchildren.com/teaching-kids-money-management/”>manage their money. Well this contest should at least give them an idea. I can’t wait to see the entries.

President Visits Kansas City

Friday, February 1st, 2008

President Bush in Kansas City

If you plan on driving through Kansas City this morning, you may want to change your route, or leave a bit earlier. The president, George Bush, will be visiting many places throughout the day. He presented President’s Volunteer Service Award to Samuel Turner Sr., for his work on the American Heart Association.

Bad areas to be today: In the morning he’ll be signing a proclamation for American Heart Month and that’ll be around 8:30 a.m., a tour around 10:20 at Hallmark Cards Center, followed by a brief statement on the economy at 10:55 a.m. and around lunch he’ll be at a private residence to raise money for U.S. Rep. Sam Graves.

Find a different route if you don’t want to be late to work: Avoid Country Club Plaza and Crown Center and this afternoon expect delays around downtown and the Northland.

Police Catch Crutch Robber In Kansas City

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

You may remember the “Crutch Bandit” that was swirling around this past week when the FBI showed raw footage of him robbing a bank. The bandit showed up wearing what looked like a Ninja get up and using a crutch to get around. However, the crutch didn’t stop him from shooting a gun twice inside a bank and proceeding to rob the place. Well, it seems they just caught the bandit in Kansas City, MO today.

Khoa Luong, the crutch robber, was arrested earlier this afternoon when police discovered who he is. The reason for the crutch? Seems Khoa had childhood polio which made it so he needed to use the crutch, his father believes his issues dealt with a gambling debt.

Welcome Kansas City Readers

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Kansas City BloggerHowdy ya’ll, I’m Eliza and I’ll be your new Kansas City Blogger and I hope I do it justice. Let me be tell ya briefly about myself. I’m the mother to four children and wife, my husband recently got out of the military and we were transplanted (yes that’s what I call it) here, a few miles outside of Kansas City but close enough to discover all of its hidden secrets. If you ever have suggestions just let me know, as I stated, I’m new out here and am just now learning the area.

Before here I lived in California, Oklahoma (brief 6 months), Arizona (hottest place on earth) and North Carolina, whic is where we just moved from. So far, I like it here…all except for the hustle and bustle on the road. I have learned bad streets to cross over at (accident).

What you will discover on this blog:

Reviews of places to eat, keep in mind I do have four children as well. The good news is this should help the parents out there that are wondering where they could take their kids out to eat. A little secret of mine, our rating system is also done by how often my drink is poured, kids, seen at least more than once after bringing our meal and if it gets messed up or not.

Places to visit, with and without children. We have already discovered Paradise Park, which will be reviewed later on.

Events that are going on around Kansas City and surrounding towns.

Sporting events, who won and maybe some big news there. Honestly I dont’ watch many sporting events and can barely write about them. But I’ll do my best, oh and yes I’ll be watching the Super Bowl.

Any other mentions will be my discoveries, opinions and of course things from the newspaper.

What would you like to see here? I’d love to hear from you.
