I’m sure by now you’ve seen on the news about the 28-year-old sex offender that abused his girlfriend’s precious 3-year-old boy. He was covered in bruises and burns all over his body, burns that stemmed from the man giving the poor child a scalding hot bath.

The police had been looking for Wilber Mateo for several weeks and currently have him in their custody.  He’ll be charged with child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. My question is, isn’t he suppose to stay away from kids? 

I know there is a ton of stuff to do in Kansas City over the weekend and I’m pretty sure you do too. But here’s a small list just in case you missed these.

This past week a female bartender by the name of Lori Reynolds of “Gossip Inn Bar,” was shot dead after she refused to serve a man a drink when he wouldn’t show ID. This is such a senseless crime, to kill someone for something so small. The man not only shot and killed Lori but he opened fire on the rest of the bar before taking off.

Yesterday it was reported by NBC Action News that there has been an arrest in the case and police are doing further investigations. In the meantime the entrance to the bar is filled with bouquets, cards and other momentos for Lori. No news on when the funeral will take place yet.

Even after the huge deal about the aircraft plant and everything the tax deal seems to have stalled out at the Senate as some oppose it. Without the tax deal the Aeropsace Plant factory will go somewhere else, taking the possible 1000+ jobs with it. This is something many need here in Kansas with all the recent job cuts.

While most people were sleeping around 4:37 a.m., there were a few that felt the Midwest Earthquake. The quake was only registered at a 5.4 and centered just off West Salem, Illinois it did some damage but not much. But people in Kansas City and as far away as Michigan actually heard or felt it, animals seem to wake and bark to it while others had pictures fall off the wall. Currently there have been no reports of injuries due to the quake. Course this wasn’t the only one, about an hour ago there was another at 10:14a.m. at just about the same location that was a 4.6 magnitude.

Did you feel either one? If so what did it feel like? I thought I felt one the night before, but not this one. Kind of strange.

David Cook of Blue Springs, Missouri is really making a name for himself both in the local papers and worldwide. That’s right this singer has made the final 7 on “American Idol” and I’m almost certain he’ll go all the way, at least that’s who I’m rooting for. Who are you cheering on?

After yesterday’s storm some of you may be wondering what type of weather to expect for the weekend. While it is definitely cloudy and windy outside, it could still rain by this evening. Expect clouds all weekend with the possibility of rain and by Monday the sun shall shine once again. So, prepare for the water to fall and grab that umbrella before you head out for the weekend. While Kansas City may have a lot to offer on the weekend, it’s not always fun when you are soaked.

The sky was beautiful yesterday with just a slight wind that blew through the air, it was the perfect day to let the kids run out and play. Play they did, it was the first time my son got to see real grass not covered by snow or rain. However, as you wake this morning and open that front door be sure to grab that jacket and umbrella as it’ll be a rainy day today. It started late last night as many were coming home from late night hours at work or college class.

On April 8th they put it to a vote and Kansas City became Smoke-free. What does this mean exactly? Basically it is just what you’d imagine, all places, including restaraunts and bars will become smoke-free within two months of the vote. By June 30th (my anniversary) there will be no smoking, not even after 9 p.m. or in places without children. This was a very close vote with the end result being 52 for the ban and 48 against.

While a person may be able to get a Kansas driver’s License between the ages of 16-76 years of age. They’ll now have to pay an additional $4 to purchase their card, instead of the original $22. In years prior a teen of 14 was able to get a learners driver’s permit and a restricted permit at 15, the laws have kept the ages the same. But they have added the following:

Woo hoo! The crowd went wild when the buzzer rang and Kansas City Jayhawks won the Championship against Memphis last night. For a moment it looked as if Memphis would win when they got to do 5 free throws, however they only made 1. The final score of the night, 75-68.

Chalmers would make the shot that would tie up the two teams and one of which will go down in Kansas Basketball history as there was only 2 seconds left of the game as he shot the ball into the air. Swoosh! The ball made it!

For those that don’t know, KU will be closed for today so they can properly welcome home the Champions. For those that want to be at the celebration, the buses are due back at 3 p.m. at the Kivisto Field at Memorial Stadium. But you can begin arriving at 1:30p.m.

Congratulations to the Jayhawks, you played GREAT!

I moved out to the Kansas City area this past January so I’m really new to the area and decided to see what types of books are out. For those of you taht are locals, moving to the area or just history buffs you may want to check out the book of the month. Dogs are being decapitated and maimed all over the Kansas City area. Why? No one seems to know yet but the police are asking for your help. If you know who is doing it or why call the tip line at: TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS. There is currently a reward for anyone that can help lead the police to an arrest.

Dog Findings:

- 4-year-old decapitated dog found in driveaway of an apartment complex near Locust Street near East 42nd Street. They aren’t sure if it was a shepherd or collie mix.
- puppy shot to death while in fenced in yard
- Many dogs found at Floral Cemetary near Lees Summit, MO (over 17 dogs this past week)
- In 2007, 2 dogs were found with their hind legs cut off. They are currently doing well and living with a nice family.

I really hope these dog abusers/killers are found soon, this is very cruel on the animal and on the families that own them. The poor dogs have no way of defending themselves. Police are worried that a soon to be serial killer could be amongst us if he/she/they are not caught soon.
